EPISODE

We welcome Katie Daniels, a solicitor from Lavan, a law firm in Perth, WA.

In this episode, Debbie sits down and interviews Katie as to her thoughts about the release of the NDIS REVIEW which was published on Dec 7th 2023. This is a fantastic episode because it comes from a legal perspective, in what Katie sees the implications of the changes by way of legislative changes which are yet to take place in the coming few years ahead.

Topics covered:
- Improved Liveability funding.
- Improved Liveability proposed changes.
- Legal & Practical Separation of Supports, between SDA & SIL business entities.
- The 'Group Homes' model.
- What SDA is meant to be doing, and the facilitation of 'Choice & Control'.
- Regional & Remote Providers "exception" on Separation of Supports.
- Legislation of Additional Monitoring Enforcement of Compliance of SDA.
- Viability of upgrading & repurposing of state owned housing of disability homes.
- The challenges of the housing market also applies to disability accomodation market.
- Requirement of SIL and SDA providers needing to collaborate more moving forwards, and the need for greater oversight between the two.
- How to uphold the rights of Participants to ensure 'Choice & Control' with the Practice Standards by which Providers need to operate by, and working together to remove 'perception' of the conflict of interest.
- Foundational Supports, being part of the NDIS, and also seperate from the NDIS, by way of early intervention supports for children, under the stewardship of the States & Territories. This will create more sustainability for the NDIS long term.

It will be interesting to review the implementation of the review recommendations, as not all the recommendations will be implemented, and to see the new 'low cost category' of SDA in which we will see IL be evolved into.
